Vision & Mission

Karmic is derived from the Sanskrit word "Karma" which means "deed" or "act" literally but is generally extended further in philosophical terms to describe the cause and effect of one's actions over one's whole life cycle.

We live with a humility that if the social ills we are confronting were simple to erase then others who are much more talented than we are would have erased them long ago. The vision of Karmic as a Social Venture Catalyst is to promote community of philanthropic leaders, strengthening local nonprofits, and catalyzing efforts to accelerate system change.

Our mission is that Karmic will become the most effective way for our Partners to create positive social change in India at a massive scale. We believed we could adapt the relevant principles of private investment and apply them for investing in the nonprofit sector.

The goal: Build truly high-performing nonprofit institutions that demonstrably improve the lives of disadvantages section of the society. By helping these organizations and their leaders generate this superior social return, we believed our way of investing could help trigger a long-term reallocation of capital, talent, and other resources to those high-performing organizations making the biggest impact.

We are motivated by a deep desire to bring whatever skills we possess and whatever resources we can harness to help narrow the growing economic and social divides that run though the heart of our country and severely limit the potential of millions of our citizens. We recognize that we are but one small organization in a sea of need. But by collaborating in our work and sharing what we learn, we hope to be a catalyst for action among a wide range of philanthropists, corporate and nonprofit leaders, and public policymakers.

Ultimately, we hope that Karmic and many other groups with similar goals can increase the effectiveness and the flow of capital, talent, and other resources to nonprofit organizations showing the greatest potential for improving the lives of underprivileged sections of the society.
