We believed we could adapt the relevant principles of private investment firms and apply them for investing in the nonprofit sector.

We are motivated by a deep desire to bring whatever skills we possess and whatever resources we can harness to help narrow the growing economic and social divides that run though the heart of our country and severely limit the potential of millions of children.

We recognize that we are but one small organization in a sea of need. But by collaborating in our work and sharing what we learn, we hope to be a catalyst for action among a wide range of philanthropists, corporate and nonprofit leaders, and public policymakers. Ultimately, we hope that Karmic and many other groups with similar goals can increase the effectiveness and the flow of capital, talent, and other resources to nonprofit organizations showing the greatest potential for improving the lives of children.

Karmic’s approach is based on our strong belief that:

• There is a great unmet need for services for disadvantages sections of the society.
  
• There are established and emerging nonprofit organizations that have workable approaches to meeting these needs.
  
• Nonprofit organizations are stretched thinner than ever as central and State governments scale back their own funding for social services and pass to nonprofits greater and greater responsibility for delivering those services.
  
• The available base of wealth, knowledge, and other resources in this country could be better leveraged to help the needy people if it is used to assist high-potential organizations to grow and become even more effective

We believe that Karmic’s successes would encourage investors to be more effective with their own philanthropy and to use their significant political, social, and financial influence to drive lasting change in the field. And, as our nonprofit partners grew stronger, our investors got more engaged, and we developed our web of relationships with foundations, businesses, and government agencies,  Karmic would be in a position to significantly leverage the effectiveness and impact of all involved.
